16 September - very best wishes to Susie today - happy birthday!

Last night we sat out for a while, little did we realize how many mosquitoes 🦟there were! So yes, once again - I’ve been bitten more. Tintin has a couple of bites, but his don’t seem to swell up and get red and angry. Even when we came inside, we found about half a dozen more (which we took great delight in killing!). They really are quite tenacious! Every single window and door has a bug screen on - which we use religiously. The only time they can get in is when we physically go out or come in. I googled about south of France and mossies - they have an influx of tiger mosquitoes. Some of the reviews have been talking about the mutant mossies, and being eaten alive - so not just me then!

Quick meal of lyonnaise potatoes last night - the French supermarkets all seem to sell the pre-peeled and pre-cooked little potatoes, so tasty meal in ten minutes!

Bikes out this morning and had over 15 mile round trip into St Tropez. I’m sure it was once a very beautiful unspoiled and pretty fishing village. It’s seems quite vulgar now with all the mega yachts and posh shops!

Having said that, there were a few boats that Tintin thought were ‘quite nice’! Was probably the big Club Med that was ferrying in coach loads of more people!

Surprisingly, some of the Plat du Jour menus seemed reasonably priced at around €15 - €30 - unlike mojitos at €15 each! We bought a baguette for €1!

The ride wasn’t that pleasant on the main roads, but at least there was a cycle path - apart from when cars were parked in it!

Came back to Dave, made up the baguette and went to the beach. Had a swim to cool ourselves down after the ride back. The Aire only has 2 toilets and 2 showers for 130 mohos! Normally we wouldn’t go near them, but had a quick cold shower in our crocs to rinse off the salt water and sand. Sand does get everywhere!

Has been about 30° again today. So, you shower - feel clean for a nano second, apply lots of sunscreen, then lots of mossie repellent - and wonder why you bother!

Me driving today - think Tintin even felt guilty. Was about an hour’s drive, but first part was - yes - you guessed - narrow and very windy, up and down! Glad I didn’t meet too much traffic, as two mohos would not have passed in some areas!

Anyway, we’re now parked up outside a church in a park4night place in Rayol-Canadel-Sur-Mer.

Not sure what came over me, but I felt hot and tired when we arrived - lay on my bed - and actually fell asleep! Can’t remember the last time I slept during the day!

After that, we walked down to the beach very close by. It was actually quite breezy. Tintin came back to Dave and returned to the beach with rum and coke and nibbles. We sat on the beach with our books and enjoyed 😊

I didn’t actually feel the need to swim again. Our beach towels already aren’t drying very well - too much salt water!

Cooked a very simple Hungarian dish called Lecso tonight - onions, peppers, fresh tomatoes, lots of paprika and a couple of eggs cooked in at the end, usually served on rice.

The days go very quickly at the moment - have only had time to read a couple of books so far! And, haven’t even been watching any iPlayer for days...

Think our research of where we can actually move onto to park or service Dave is taking way more time than any of our previous travels.

About Us

Martin and Kay Dumont from Guernsey, first time motorhomers and ready to travel. ‘Dave’ is our Mobilvetta K Yacht 85, purchased in 2017 and travelled all the way from Italy. After following Jason and Julie Buckley’s blog 'Ourtour' for years I just couldn’t get the name ‘Dave’ out of my head. So the Mobilvetta had to be another 'Dave’. More...
