Josselin - N47°57.383’ W002°32.961’ - free

Was quite warm overnight, so opened internal door to get more draft from the front roof vent. Set the alarm and felt safe! Leisurely start to the day. Walked to Lidl and purchased water, bread and a few bits and pieces.

I drove, took about 1-3/4 hours, but stopped off for fuel, and had to turn around a couple of times! May have to adjust the settings in Co-pilot! Tintin’s hard work has paid off, we don’t rattle nearly as much, however have been on some very good newish roads.

Late lunch sat in large car park. Went for a walk into the medieval town of Josselin. Last time we came here was many years ago on a canal boat we’d hired when our children Jamie and Sarah were pre-teens - and it was pouring with rain! In comparison today feels really hot and sunny!

Josselin was founded in the 11th century, and over the centuries the medieval city developed around its castle, which is built in a rocky outcrop dominating the Oust valley. Surrounded by thick ramparts the city has been destroyed on several occasions.

We walked up the circular steps to the top of the cathedral, all 150 of them. Brilliant views all around.

Walked down to the canal and listened to the history regarding the washerwomen, and had a look at the lock.

Meandered through the herb garden, back through the main streets towards Dave. Martin was very excited to see an old Simca - and spoke to the owners. Apparently the car is 44 years old, original and in good working order!
