One problem when you live on Guernsey is taking your motorhome back to the service agent if something goes wrong.  It doesn’t really matter whether you buy in the UK or somewhere else in the EU, it still entails a ferry trip costing about £350 - £420 return.  Luckily, in the 2 years we’ve owned Dave nothing has gone wrong that has stopped us travelling.  All the faults, and there have been quite a few, have been minor or we have done a temporary fix on the road.  As a consequence, Dave went back to Marquis in Poole last May to get a years worth of niggles sorted.  We were on a 3 week trip down to Devon and Cornwall, visiting our Son and Daughter in law in Truro whilst we were there.  We also took the opportunity to have a Strikeback Growler alarm fitted at Vanbitz to give us more peace of mind.  Vanbitz were great and I recommmend them if you want any extras fitted.  Fast clean service and a free night on their perfect campsite, what more do you want.

Anyway, back to the present.  Dave had amassed about 19 faults this last year, sounds a lot, doesn’t it.  Some were very minor and I would have fixed them myself if Dave wasn’t going back to Marquis.  The 2 big problems were the graphics on the front of Dave and an intermittent water leak from the back roof seal.  Last time we were at Marquis we still lived in Dave and went out for the day on our bikes.  This time we couldn’t do that as Dave had to be kept inside overnight as the back end would be open to the elements.  So I took Dave over last Monday evening and Marquis started work on Tuesday.  I’ve now returned to Guernsey and we will both go over next Monday to start our next adventure.

Our plan this Spring is to nip down to Cornwall and see our Son and family for a few days.  After that Germany is in our sights starting with a trip on the Channel Tunnel.  As we will always get to the EU in the future via St Malo we thought a try on the Tunnel would be an experience we are unlikely to repeat.  As for Brexit problems, who knows!  We have International Driving Permits, we have a Green Card and we have hope that we will be allowed in!  We’ll let you know how it goes. Our ferry back to Guernsey from St Malo is booked for the 28th June.  Where we get to during the next 11 weeks is anybody’s guess but we will document it here so stay tuned.

What to read more?

We've got stories from all over Europe. We could tell you about the highlights, the lows and sometimes just the mundane reality of being on the move all the time. We love writing about our experiences, we hope you'll love reading about them too!

After following Jason and Julie Buckley’s blog 'Ourtour' for years I just couldn’t get the name ‘Dave’ out of my head. So the Mobilvetta had to be another 'Dave’. More...
