La Bréche - 19 May 2022

Well, for a variety of reasons we decided to change our ferry home to tomorrow afternoon. Consequently, we drove up closer to Cherbourg and have spent the afternoon on the beach close to the Omaha landings.

La Bréche - 19 May 2022

Thursday, 19 May 2022 - La Bréche (beach)

Considering we were parked on a residential street, right alongside the road, last night we had a good nights sleep.

Woke up to rain, then more rain - which wasn’t really forecast to continue as it did.

Tintin had been looking at the forecast for our trip home on Monday, and it was due to be windy. If that ferry didn’t go, our next would have been from St Malo on Wednesday, the next on Saturday is already booked. As there’s nowhere else we feel we have to see this trip, we’ve decided to go home a few days early. We’re now booked on the ferry from Cherbourg tomorrow evening.

It’s fair to say we’re lacking in photos today!

We walked into Trouville once the rain had lessened about 11am to pick up a baguette and a couple of pain au raisin.

Tintin drove for nearly 2-1/2 hours.

We drove past Sainte-Mère-Eglise, which we’d already visited a few years ago. For Tintin’s 60th birthday we visited the Normandy beaches, as that’s what he’d wanted to do!

Narrow last road to the beach.

We’ve spent the rest of the day parked alongside the sea. It was high tide when we arrived, and only a few metres from Dave’s door. Decidedly nippy outside at first!

Excitement for the afternoon, 3 helicopters flew over, missed the other one in the photo!
Little Egret, correct me if I’m wrong please

After a very late lunch - gone 2pm - as we didn’t see anywhere suitable to stop off for lunch - we sat on the beach.

Went for a walk ‘there and back’ along the seashore. I didn’t feel the need to immerse my body in the sea - it was so cold in comparison with yesterday!

My own Bear Grylls collected lots of drift wood in order to have a fire pit - but decided the wind had got up too much - the pyromaniac in him will have to wait…

Just had a really hot Jerk Chicken - so glad we still had some Greek yogurt to cool it down a little!

So, this will probably be our last blog for this trip, as tomorrow we’re driving to Cherbourg for the ferry. We’ve never travelled via there before…

Hope you’ve enjoyed our blog, although it has to be said - it’s really just for us because our memories are so bad with place names - we’d never remember where we’ve been!
